In Taiwan, a “wind and rain playground” typically refers to a partially indoor sports field that provides shelter from stormy weather. For this exhibition, Taipei-based art project group "Bridge Hole" aims to create a space where creators can continue to develop their artistic practices beyond their academic training, while also facilitating a platform for community engagement and critical dialogue.
With a focus on the natural world, Bridge Hole will showcase works by artists who explore and reflect on the relationship between art and nature. Through this exhibition, they hope to encourage a deeper understanding and appreciation of the environment, and foster a greater sense of connectedness with the natural world.
About Bridge Hole:
In 2020, the traditional market and taxi rest area under the main highway in Taipei city were forced to be demolished, which not only meant the disappearance of a public facility, but also the neglect of a vernacular life village. As neighbours, they decided to intervene in this process and transform it into an inspiring art project.
They took on the role of market vendors and applied for a storefront business. Here, they conducted a one-year research and exhibition, inviting market vendors and the public to participate in the opening party. Through art, they aimed to reveal the peculiarity of this place while challenging social order and developing new spatial concepts.
As a site for knowledge production, our project also facilitated cultural mediation between artists, audiences, and community residents. By documenting diverse exchanges within this unique urban space, they hoped to inspire new possibilities and imaginations for ways of living. In 2023, through everyone's efforts, the market was partially demolished but half of the stalls were left intact. This book serves as our record and tribute to this process.
