East Asian cultural classroom is back! 👩🏻🌾
We are starting a series of East Asian cultural workshops together with our brilliant neighbour, Bergen House of Litterature . It’s a continuation of our popular East Asian Cultural Week in summer 2021.
This Saturday, architect Phoebe Chu from Hong Kong, is going to lead a workshop on Chinese Characters (Kanji), their structure and the creative inspiration driven by them. She’s one of the exhibitors among the 9 in the exhibition Intersension(al) in 2021 and currently living in Oslo. She’s back with her splendid project about the characters. We have the capacity for 10 families.
About Artist
Phoebe spent most of her childhood balancing between western and eastern culture as she was born and raised in Hong Kong - a place that represents a mixture of the east and the west. In addition to studying western art at school, she grew up learning Chinese paintings and calligraphy, therefore, she developed an inquisitive mind in understanding Chinese character structure and font pattern. Her experience of transforming Chinese character to spatial experience is one of the continuous transits: emotionally, physically, and culturally, between the east and the west. Now she is practising as an architect in Oslo, at the same time finding the artistic and ambiguous relationship between Chinese character structure and architecture space.
