Northing in Tokyo
with TPR
-
is an artist collective founded by artist Taisuke Koyama, consisting of artists and researchers broadly involved in photographic expression. TPR was established in 2018 to document, express, and archive the rapidly transforming Tokyo through contemporary photography and video, prompted by the large-scale redevelopment associated with the Olympics. With missions such as “multifaceted urban research,” “pragmatic exploration of contemporary photography,” and “developmental research on photographic culture,” TPR aims to visualize the unseen aspects of the city, society, and people, and to carry forward the visions discovered into the future.
Over the past six years, more than 60 projects have been carried out with about 70 artists, including exhibitions, field research, commission work, joint programs with embassies of various countries and national and international art universities. In recent years, they have been actively engaging young artists and art managers, and advancing international exchange, as part of their efforts to create a cultural, social, and economic ecosystem for contemporary photographic expression in Japan.
