Habitat / 栖

€20.00

Habitat is a Riso-printed artist book which is the result of a workshop among 10 artists at Bananafish Bookstore in Shanghai. It was the first event in the China meets Norway in a bookshelf project of Northing. From concept development to printing and binding, the book took only 15 hours to come into being, from scratch. Among the 10 artists, 6 were from or living in Norway and 4 from Shanghai. They were architects, graphic designers, bookmakers, comic artists, photographers, and illustrators. Each page was designed and crafted by two artists in collaboration. The pages were arranged randomly and every page could be the front-page. The book was bound in a way that you can easily unbind it to have 9 separated posters instead.

Habitat is the place where we live and multiply. In the nature animals choose, adapt to, and become a part of their habitat, whilst in the human society we build, develop, and rehabilitate our habitat. Habitat means different things to different individuals. It could be a cosy room, a corner you can always return to, a piece of memory to support us moving forward…Habitat is space; mountains and meadows, rivers and oceans. Habitat is time, too; past and future, and the precious present. Habitat could also be spiritual; a yearning or a hope.
