Treasure Island
Yuwei was a student in California where he spent the most peaceful and relaxed time of his life, painting and idling around. Time goes extremely fast in such a state but luckily he paints. The memories were collected in the form of paintings and later on became exhibitions and books.
“Later,Paticularly when in bad mood,I would ride alone, sloshing around, holding simple painting tools. On the island it was easy to find a comfortable place to paint, open a Coke and turn up my headset to max. With my brush sailing across the paper,at moment it seemed that life was perfect. Indulging in painting was an escape from any trouble. I was addicted. I would sneak into the bushes to hide and enjoy a quiet afternoon. When I took the paintings back home my mood was conflicted. I was satisfied having painted, but I didn’t know the painting’s significance .”
Yuwei paints with gouache and acrylic. Deliberately or naturally (one tends to believe it’s the latter ) Yuwei always manage to hide his tenderness and melancholy under the eerie colours and crooked lines.
