Comic artist Woshibai, inspired by Yoko Ono’s Grapefruit (1964), interprets and reattributes the Fluxus Event Score through his own distinctive comic language: simple in form, yet profound in resonance. Through 49 newly created single-frame instructional comic illustrations, Woshibai challenges readers with an almost impossible mission—to overturn our conventional understanding of social and natural surroundings, and, in doing so, perhaps save us from drowning in the never-ending stream of mundane daily life.

  • Woshibai is a cartoonist and illustrator based in Shanghai. His illustrations are minimalistic yet focused, bouncing between single and multiple frames, and he is able to build narratives with impressive ease. His creations encompass both comics and drawings, and he collaborates with clients from the cultural and commercial sectors, such as The New Yorker, Bloomberg Businessweek, and West Bund Museum.

He is the author of Game, The Egg Dreamed It Was a Stone, 20KM/H, Object Theater, Touché, and Open the Book. His works have been published in China, France, Belgium, Canada, and Japan, and exhibited in China, Norway, Italy, Georgia, and Japan.
