NORTHING ON AIR 003
Last year it was hard for all of us who would like to be connected to others and to other cultures around the world. We couldn’t invite anyone from Asia to have exhibitions in our space in Bergen. But we managed somehow to curate an exhibition-series, featuring artists and designers with East Asian cultural background living in Norway.
In this episode we will get to know the four exhibitors better. They will share with us their stories how they ended up in Norway and the pros and cons of working and living as an artist in Norway. On the stage in the Bergen house of literature, the artists and designers compared the education systems as well as the parenting and upbringing styles in different cultures, discussed on the diversity situation in different cities they’ve been living in, the identity issues and how they tackled them, the realities and feelings of being a diaspora or a descendant of diasporas, and not the least the social responsibilities of being an artist or designer. We also explored one question together: how can original cultural background cultivate and contribute in one’s creative career in a foreign/multi-cultural environment.
