Nieves Zines 100+
Northing Space was invited by Bergen Art Book Fair to be one of the sub-venues in their 8th edition. Northing presented 100+ Nieves Zines as the book fair exhibition in their exhibition room in downtown Bergen. It’s a retrospective exhibition of Nieves’ zine program since 2016, with more than 100 zine artists from all over the world involved. The exhibited zines have been travelling from Printed Matter in New York to Bananafish in Shanghai and this time all the way up to the north and landed in Northing Space in Bergen. This was also the first time Nieves having an exhibition in Norway.
About Nieves Books:
Nieves was co-founded by Benjamin Sommerhalder in 2001 in Zurich with the aim of creating affordable, quickly made and simply distributed publications that could be published on a regular basis. The featured artists all have in common a hand-made approach to their work in drawing, illustration, photography and graphic. Over two hundred artists have contributed to the growing list of Nieves Zines, it includes publications by Maren Karlson, Ari Marcopoulos, Stefan Marx, Allison Schulnik, Marcel Dzama, Chris Johanson, Laura Owens, Ken Kagami, Mike Mills, Son Ni, Aurel Schmidt, Harmony Korine, Masanao Hirayama, Miranda July, and many more. The zines are published sporadically in an edition of 100 copies, distributed to a handful of bookshops worldwide and quickly becoming collectibles. Nieves publications have been exhibited at Kunsthalle Zürich, Kunstverein Hamburg, Art Metropole in Toronto, Printed Matter and Swiss Institute in New York and Centre Culturel Suisse in Paris.
